Top Five Websites For International Development Jobs

There are thousands of websites that offer listings of the latest job opportunities in international development, and most of these also offer additional resources, such as resume writing tips and volunteer opportunities tailored specifically to the sector. With so many options to choose from, we came up with our top five websites for international development jobs based on the variety of jobs and resources posted daily and those that feature African-based opportunities. Bear in mind that while all of these websites provide basic job information for free, for most, there’s a subscription charge to get access to premium content such as connecting with potential employers, applying for contracts and tenders, or viewing applicant profiles.  Here’s our list of the top five websites that made the cut (in no particular order):

DEVEX

Devex is a media organisation that provides an interactive online platform for the global development community and connects and informs hundreds of thousands of professionals on opportunities available in the sector. With 1.3 million monthly viewers and a growing community of over 800,000 professionals, the devex website is one of the go-to membership websites for development sector jobs. It has a user friendly job search page that is easy to navigate and the website also offers insights on various topics, showcases lists of grants and contract opportunities for individuals and organisations. To truly enjoy the breadth of opportunities available on the website, there is a monthly membership fee to access premium jobs and grants.

DEVELOPMENT AID

Development Aid is another membership-based organisation and website that provides an array of opportunities for the development community. The organisation specialises in connecting development professionals with donors, development agencies, NGOs, and consultancy firms. Like Devex, Development Aid also offers information on contracts and tenders as well as other funding opportunities. One key differentiator is that the latter provides a customised CV generation tool to convert standard CVs to various donor agency templates like the African Development Bank and World Bank. There are over 58,000 development professionals and over 90,000 organisations registered on the Development Aid website. An annual membership fee is charged for access to premium listings.

DEVNETJOBS

DevNetJobs links 600,000 job seekers to opportunities provided by over 20,000 recruiters with a robust search function on their website. Although initial access is free, the subscribed membership plans give users the opportunity to search and apply to thousands of international job vacancies that are provided on the website. In addition, members can also pay to have their profiles showcased on the homepage and boosted for greater visibility across the website. Like the earlier websites mentioned, DevNetJobs also offers information on contracts, tenders, and consultancies in the sector.

UNjobs

UNjobs is one of the top websites for jobs at the United Nations and other international organisations around the world. It is a completely free resource (no membership fees) and offers more than 2000 job opportunities daily. For African countries like Mali, Congo DRC, Zambia, Nigeria, and Egypt, there are over a 100 vacancies posted. Since it is not a membership website there is no platform for connecting directly with other professionals or organisations. However, each vacancy listed offers robust details of the role and a link to the hiring organisation’s website

ReliefWeb

Reliefweb is a leading online resource for jobs in development, particularly in the humanitarian sector. Over the past 20 years the website has offered a variety of content for humanitarians including news, reports, infographics, jobs, and trainings. Over 4500 organisations post vacancies on the website and there are currently more than 2800 open jobs globally. It is a free to use platform, however, visitors are encouraged to subscribe to receive job notifications via email.
