Outstanding Individuals and civil society organizations were recognized at the 5th edition of the Nigerian Volunteers Awards (NVA) themed Amplifying Good Works which took place on 21 August, 2021 in Lagos, Nigeria.
While delivering his opening remarks, Winny Uwagbale, the convener of the Awards, spoke to the power of volunteering and the immense opportunities it can bring to youth.
Keynote speakers at the Awards include Ini Abimbola, CEO of ThistlePraxis Consulting Limited, Chidi Koldsweat, Founder of Donors for Africa, Mark Idiahi, Communications Specialist at Ubong King Foundation and Yoanna Chikezie, Founder of The Assembly Hub. Each speaker alluded to the power of volunteering and the potential it has to catalyze change in all ramifications.
Among the civil society organizations recognized at the Awards were The Mirabel Centre, Life After Abuse Foundation, Naza Agape Foundation, Freedom Foundation, Health Pro-activists Initiatives, Audrey Sickle Cell Foundation, The Bridge Leadership Foundation, Motherhood Nigeria Initiative, Gertrude Olowo Empowerment Initiative and Posh Foundation.
Individual awardees doing amazing work at the community level were also celebrated. They include Ibrahim Hero Faleye, Albert Mogoli, Timothy Dare Asobele, Nurse Pious Glory among others.
Ini Abimbola while delivering her address, encouraged participants to be the difference by daring to take the step and fill the void.
Volunteering helps with purpose discovery and opens doors in the most amazing ways. She encouraged volunteers to not ever feel subpar while volunteering, to keep at it and know that one day it’ll work for the best.
