Legislation as a Tool for Deepening Generosity
Philanthropy Circuit and Giving Tuesday Nigeria launched its maiden edition of a monthly Twitter space conversation that is set to hold every first Tuesday of the month.
The first session held on July 5th, 2022 with leading expert voices Z. J. Jallah of YESLiberia and Funke Adeoye of Hope Behind Bars Africa sharing insights on how legislation can deepen African Philanthropy.

Digital Advocacy and Women’s Rights Organisations in Africa.
As part of Philanthropy Circuit’s 2022 Dialogue Series on #AfricanPhilanthropy, this premier Twitter Chat explored ‘Digital Advocacy and Women’s Rights Organisations in Africa’ with the amazing teams from Women’s Technology Empowerment Center – Nigeria, and Zamara Foundation – Kenya. Guests shared the place of bias, navigating the gender gap in digital access and practices that could catalyze equity in Africa’s development sector.

Building Africa’s Philanthropy: Knowledge and Practice
The ability to build data sets and institutionalise systems of practice lends credence to a sector’s capacity, expertise and relevance. This was the subject of exploration in the chat with the Center on African Philanthropy and Social Investment – CAPSI and West Africa Civil Society Institute – WACSI.

On Wednesday 28 April, we engaged in the monthly Twitter Chat with guest Segun Kosoko Co-Founder & Co-CEO of crowdfunding platform Donate_NG. The chat centered on Exploring Alternative Funding Sources for Nonprofits.
The chat revealed how crowdfunding when done properly provides multiple benefits – raising funds, creating awareness, impact, and fostering change. It also serves to hone the nonprofit’s source of funding when a recurring donation is in place and validates its support structure within the giving community.
In the March edition of the monthly Twitter Chat between Eme Iniekung, Program Coordinator – Philanthropy Circuit @CircuitEditor, and Eddah Jowah, Coordinator of the Centre for Philanthropy at SIVIO Institute @sivioinstitute discuss Growing the Practice of Philanthropy in Zimbabwe, on Thursday, March 25, 2021, by 2 pm WAT (4 pm EAT).
The February conversation on Twitter between Eme Iniekung, Program Coordinator – Philanthropy Circuit @CircuitEditor, and Victor Odhiambo, Executive Director – Garden of Hope Foundation @GardenofHopeFdn was themed ‘Driving Community Impact: Insights on Sustainability ‘and held on Thursday, February 25, 2021, by 2 pm WAT (4 pm EAT).
Insights were shared on the place of mentorship, building entrepreneurial and leadership skills for sustainable community impact, and the importance of an enabling environment by the government for civil society.

The discussion provided a platform for understanding the challenges and nuances in Africa’s development sector, particularly as it relates to fundraising and capacity building.
