Alliance Magazine
Based in London, Alliance Magazine offers philanthropy-related news, opinion, issue-based analysis, and conference reports from across the world to philanthropists and social investors. Since 1998, the Magazine has been published quarterly touching on civil society, community foundations, corporate social responsibility and other related areas. The Magazine’s content is based on contributions from its twenty high profile contributors including Lucy Bernholz of Stanford University’s Center of Philanthropy and Civil Society and features interviews by leading practitioners in the sector. The magazine’s user-friendly website enables viewers read over 3,000 articles arranged by geographic location, theme and content type. The website also displays current events happening worldwide.
Foundation Center
Headquartered in New York, Foundation Center is a nonprofit research group providing data, research, and trainings on philanthropy. The Center was established in 1956 to connect social change makers to the resources they need to succeed. Its Foundation Directory Online (FDO) maintains a database of over 140,000 grant makers to aid grant seekers in identifying potential funding sources. Based on its research programmes, the Center produces philanthropy reports to advance the knowledge of philanthropy at all levels. The 2017 issue of its annual report on Advancing Human Rights analyses how $2.7 billion in funding for human rights was distributed to organizations worldwide. The Center’s online courses on fundraising, organization sustainability, and leadership and management supports the development of organizations. The Center also operates a daily news service: Philanthropy News Digest, and a self-service grant resource tool called Grant Space.
Inside Philanthropy
Inside Philanthropy (IP) offers insight and opinion on the philanthropy environment as it relates to the economy, health, science and other issues. With its 10-member editorial team, IP explores how foundations and major donors donate and why. It also provides an easy-to-use search tool for finding funders across the United States as well as guidelines for grant seekers. These guidelines advise nonprofits on how to approach donors based on the industry, focus areas and geographic space of the donor. IP offers job seekers the opportunity to upload their CVs on their website and a list of career opportunities in the nonprofit sector.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy
The Chronicle of Philanthropy is a media and research organization that has covered the nonprofit world since 1988. Located in Washington DC, it provides daily news, articles, and reports on several topics ranging from government regulation to online fundraising which are useful for beginners, leaders, grant makers, fundraisers and others in philanthropic organizations. The Chronicle publishes twelve issues of its magazine every year, releases newsletters daily, and updates its website as much as eleven times a day. The organization is involved in several data research projects like The Philanthropy 400, which ranks American nonprofit groups based on private support raised annually. To assist nonprofit organizations and professionals, The Chronicle organizes webinars, and displays listing of grants and new career opportunities.
Philanthropy Circuit
Closing the information gap for the African philanthropy space is Philanthropy Circuit, a startup media and research organization reporting on African philanthropy from an African perspective. The organization covers stories through a growing network of contributors across Africa and provides original insights, features on African nonprofits and Foundations, and lists new opportunities such as grants and jobs specifically in Africa. Philanthropy Circuit’s newsletter, The Weekly Circuit covers the latest news and information on home-grown philanthropy and where relevant, global philanthropy.
